After observing my two chihuahuas coldly staring at their dog dish, I carefully filled it with the most expensive dog kibble (nothing but the best for my pet family), but they turned and walked away. So, I decided to reevaluate the type of dog food purchase I’d made. I researched types of dog foods and found that dogs do not digest oats, wheat, barley, corn, or white rice. Yet 75% of the offered brands had some or all of those fillers. Worse, the other fillers were body parts of chickens, horses, and random animals it seemed, that the packaging companies could find to add to the dog food mixture. Therefore, I took a quick class online with a renowned Veterinarian and changed my choice of dog food to a Freeze Dried Raw Diet. Those two chihuahuas of mine, perked up like I’d never seen before. They ate with enthusiasm and I smiled.
Also, I learned that food coloring in dog food is to appeal to humans, according to Dr. Marty, a well-known author on animal nutrition. I’m sure you have seen Dr. Marty on the Oprah Show where he diagnosed her lethargic dog. Or on the Dog Whisperer show. “Dogs do not have preferences in what color bowl they eat from, nor are they attracted to dog food that is multicolored”. It has been proven by scientists that dogs do not see colors as humans do.
“Jay Neitz, an ophthalmologist at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and his colleagues, discovered that canines could see blues and yellows but not reds and greens.” (i.e. ScientificAmerican, October 4, 2023.) Therefore the myth that dogs prefer red/green items over blue/yellow has been debunked. Just for fun, try it yourself by offering your pooch a rope toy that’s blue or yellow versus one that’s red or green and see if your pet has a preference. If you like, Leave your opinion here.
